The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys

No, today it is not a poem by me but the words
of Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi
The music is haunting and the words mysterious.
I am putting the words here by themselves
because they are that good.
If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys

The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was
The low spark of high-heeled boys

If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?
Or something similar as this? Don't worry too much
It'll happen to you as sure as your sorrows are joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys

If I gave you everything that I owned and asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you?
Or take me for a ride, and strip me of everything including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound
The low spark of high-heeled boys

Does It Matter

Gloomy
Does It Matter

Calling out
to the sky
no answer
to be had
in return
Just the quiet
as an answer

was it enough
what was done
did it matter
does it
ever
matter

holding back
the oceans
of lost
opportunity
fix
patch
repair
to no avail

rip tides pull
one out to sea
fight the current
swept away
no one knows
a finger
in the water
leaves no mark

was it really
a wonderful life
mr stewart
no wings
no angels
no echo
in the night

fragile
vulnerable
unable
to shake
the doubts
of worth

doubts that
set in
tend to
linger

Baby I'm Amazed

Sunday, June 14, 2009

recently awoke
music of youth
fab four
john paul
george ringo
played so much
tired of it all

forgotten lyrics
told a story
concept album
anticipation
words meant
much to us
back then
another time

sullivan said
they are beatles
crying girls
hairstyle change
wear it long
pointy shoes
parents panic
what happened
elvis
rock and roll
changed forever

years have past
we now parents
elevator music
of favorite tunes
video wake up
stir the blood
this stuff is good

tickled the senses
rigby and 64
hold my hand
mystery so magical
sgt pepper too
paul is dead
music backward
was it said
I am the walrus
what does it mean
egg man baby
I'm amazed
golden medley
ticket to ride
michelle my belle
twist and shout
on my submarine

white album double
revolver rubber soul
to name a few
fields of strawberry
does dorthy know
lucy had her diamonds

cartoons in morning
get music fix
they are everywhere
didn't last
sad ending
bite of the apple

on their own
never the same
almost as good
bullet takes one
health on another
guitar gently weeps

here comes the sun
hey jude
hold my hand
always has been
long winding road
still good to me
stirred the soul
let it be

All Hail The Mighty Weed

repost

Sunday, November 8, 2009

when did it start
the love of the lawn
endless sea of green
soft and tender
underfoot
natures carpet
to frolic upon
roll and play
used as feed
for many an animal
forage for a meal

in rolled in the weed
many shapes and forms
prickly or not
flowered or clinging
ground cover for some
spoiling the greenery
for many

yank pull cut dig
no stopping
the green vermin
stop it now
bring in the pro
a gunfighter of sorts
the weed killer
rode into town
with promises aplenty
worry no more
action it will take
machine or by man
lay down the spray
pellets by some
time and money
watch them die

but wait
like a swamp creature
from the deep
a lawn nightmare returns
jason could admire
a nightmare back
a summer scream uttered
didn't kill us all
badder then before
overcome the weak sister
lawn

let nature take its
course
do what it will
hail the mighty weed
and remember the 60's

grass is for smoking

War, what is it good for?

repost

Friday, June 12, 2009

century of claims
arguments galore
what's mine is mine
what's yours is mine

better than you
our blood is pure
like fine wine
your ancestry in question
your peasant lines

god is against you
guiding light
convert by sword
or perish and die

contrived destruction
reason unknown
someone makes money
young men die

for or against us
no middle ground
whatever the reason
will start the war

stir up the blood
in a faraway land
too many bullets
find the mark

letter sent home
our regrets are many
your son has died
a brave solider he
cries of the mother
anguish of dad

coffin is lowered
taps is played
draped flag is folded
triangle in size
gunshots ring in the air
21 in all
a tribute to the fallen

won't be the last
many to follow
always the young
always to young

Touched By The Sun

time of the year
warm not hot
gentle breeze
caressing the face

flower petals
open up
drawing on the
power
of the orb
high in the sky

nourishment
life giving
to man
or beast

a cleansing
chasing away
all that is
not pure

be like
the tree
reach
for the sky
feelings
are good

one with nature
good
to be
alive

Fallen Soldiers

All that remains
father
grandfather
WWII
WWI
served well
legacy of sacrifice
both survived
both fought well

kill or be killed
grandfather army guy
world war one
never talked
about what
was done
war stories none
heavy drinker
before or after
that is unknown
war to end all wars

kill or be killed
father navy guy
world war two
never talked about
what was seen
war stories none
heavy drinker
before or after
that is unknown
let's do it again
war to end all wars

bit of cloth
draped on coffin
solemn  occasion
taps
21 gun salute
flag folded gently
handed to widow
tears fall
wails of sorrow
never more

people show up
pay respects
on the world stage
just a number

flag of remembrance
stored in garage
what does it mean
many more to follow
never ending
reasons are many
never rings true

I remember
the ultimate sacrifice
life and death
that is
reality

Holiday Sadness

time of year
time of good cheer
tis the season
of laughter
and joy
it's not for all

something is
missing
it's not for all

shorter days
longer nights
time of sadness
others around
happy
bustling
presents to buy
gifts to give
it's not for all

sense of loss
clouds the view
why me
it's not for all

most wonderful time
of the year
said in
a song
it's not for all

why not me

The Lost Art Of The Kiss

eons
and
ages
since
the touch
softness
and warmth
brushing
nuzzling
purpose
and
passion

missing
from life
sharing
and caring
holding
being held

anticipation
not
forthcoming

left
wondering
how it was

sparks
used to fly

downward
spiral

one is
the loneliest
number

need to learn
again
the lost
art of
the kiss
